    How does School Choice Work?

Each on time choice application is assigned a randomly issued lottery number. For each of the schools on your list, the system will check to see whether the student applying has an older sibling currently attending and continuing. Siblings are given priority.

The computer will check every on time first choice first (forms submitted Feb. 1-19, 2021) and create wait lists before checking second choices. Only the first choice is placed on a wait list. This makes the school you place first most important for your family. Wait list dissolve and there is no more movement after the end of business on August 31, 2021.

If you applied for choice on-time and wish to change your choice once you have the results, you may do so only between May 1 and May 31 by submitting a new choice form electronically to schoolchoice@seattleschools.org. Again, those choice forms are placed on wait lists based on date and lottery number. On-time tiebreakers do not apply.

Results are expected to be available starting in late Spring 2021 using the assignment lookup tool.

You will need to provide each student's MM/DD/YYYY date of birth and Seattle Public Schools ID to get wait list and assignment information.

Please note that late choice forms will be accepted through May 31, 2021. Late choice forms are placed on wait lists based on date and lottery number. On-time tiebreakers do not apply.

Option Schools also have a GeoZone, defined by residential address. You may use the address lookup tool and see if a school you want to list is connected to your address as a GeoZone school. https://www.seattleschools.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=627&pageId=68934565
